Executive Team:

Our Founder & President, Stephen Gates:

Stephen has been working in the renewable energy and appropriate technology fields for the past twelve years.  In that time he has been working to mainstream the broad scale adoption of solar energy, mainly photovoltaic (PV) for use in distributed generation applications for homes and commercial spaces. Stephen has been featured designing and installing Solar Energy on National TV twice, once for HGTV and once for the Discovery Channel’s Greenovate.  Stephen and his wife, Deyla Gates, have also been featured in Santa Barbara Magazine, in the Green Scene Issue, highlighting the couples ecological business and personal lifestyle. Before founding NPC Stephen, co-developed one of the largest residential installation in the US, Humming Bird Ranch Simi Valley CA with EE Solar, pioneered Big Box store solar sales through Costco with Solar Systems International, and helped with one of the largest rooftop commercial installation in the US, GM parts distribution center Ontario CA with ACS.
Stephen studied renewable energy and appropriate technology at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and Pomona.  He also apprenticed with world renowned ecological designers, Sim Van Der Ryn and Nader Khalili as well as visionary business leader Rinaldo Brutoco at the World Business Academy.

VP Operations, Luke O’Dea, P.E.:

Luke has spent the last five years in the design and development of renewable energy projects with a focus on large commercial solar ENRphotovoltaic installations.  Luke’s work has included multiple megawatts of system design engineering, energy yield modeling, and engineering consulting on some of the largest rooftop PV systems in North America, including one project at over 5 MW.  He was named by Engineering News Record as a Top 20 Under 40 professional in Design and Construction for 2012.  He is a graduate of the College of Engineering at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.

Lead System Designer, Isaac Freed:

Isaac is a N.A.B.C.E.P. certified pv system designer who has been designing and building solar systems since 2005. Isaac is the founder of Fuse Solar www.fusesolar.com and he holds a California C-46 contractor’s license. Isaac ensures every system performs at its maximum potential upon commissioning and throughout its long life. His keen design insights and ruthless attention to detail keep NPC design and installation activities running smoothly.

CFO, Bob Stoffregen:

Bob has over 30 years of experience in diverse business matters.  He is trained in accounting and law which enables him to work effectively with company accountants, outside auditors, and in-house as well as outside legal counsel in handling client matters.
Bob has previously been CFO of five publicly held companies.
He received a BA in Accounting, Magna Cum Laude, from the University of Minnesota at Duluth and a JD, Cum Laude, from William Mitchell College of Law.  He is a former Touche Ross (Deloitte & Touche) tax partner.

Independent Development Partner Steven Abbey:

Although not a formal member of the NPC team Stephen Abbey works seamlessly with NPC to develop projects as an Independent Development Partner.

Steven Abbey, Entrepreneur and Investor is the former Owner and Co-founder of Allied Logistics, a Ventura-based aerospace manufacturing and exporting firm that won Small Business Exporter of the Year in 2003. He also co-owned Hayden Industries a heat exchanger manufacturing firm and former division of Honeywell. Steven also co- founded the non-profit called Adopt-A-Pet in 1996 which has found homes for well over 600,000 pets while increasing the annual operating budget to almost two million dollars. He has his Series 65 (Financial Adviser's License) and is known for his out-of-the-box and interdisciplinary perspective on our economy, politics and health care. He is a graduate of the University of Colorado where he received a bachelor of arts degree in Economics and Psychology.

About Energy:

Energy makes our lives better.  Since electricity became widely distributed it has increased quality of life across the globe BUT at the same time it has grown to account for the majority of humans pollution output.  This is the problem Neighborhood Power Corporation set out to help solve, how do we continue to benefit from electricity without the environmental impacts.  When we discovered that enough energy hit the earth in a single HOUR to run the entire global economy for a full year, we realized that distributed solar energy was a great place to start!  Our team is also exploring and developing Hydrogen technologies, Energy Efficiency Technologies and Transportation solutions.

Energy is a common thread that runs through all of the issues facing the modern world.  Solve the Energy problem and we get a lot closer to solving:

  • The water problem:  Currently it requires as much as 7 gallons of clean water to generate 1 kWh of dirty energy.  But with ample supply of clean renewable energy we can provide clean water all over the planet from any source.
  • The population problem: It has been demonstrated all across the globe that when cultures receive low cost plentiful electricity several key things happen; infant death rates plummet, education levels increase especially for women, more time is freed up for higher pursuits and magically population growth rates begin to decrease rapidly and exponentially from one generation to another.
  • The food problem:  There is more than enough food currently produced on the planet to feed every person alive today.  The reason so many go hungry is a lack of energy.  With enough clean renewable energy all this food can be distributed and stored properly to provide for all.
  • The Pollution problem:  The production of electricity accounts for the highest % of global pollution.  The mercury and other noxious outputs from coal fired power plants pollute our food supplies, drinking water and air.  The legal amounts of Strontium 90 constantly streaming out of properly functioning nuclear power plants has been proven to bioaccumulate in the bones and teeth of humans downwind from them creating cancer clusters and the world has seen the effects of malfunctioning nuclear power plants in Japan.

Our Mission:

At NPC, our team shares an energetic and entrepreneurial spirit. We take great pride in bringing innovative energy solutions to the businesses and communities we serve.
We also understand that the environmental impact of energy production is one of the greatest challenges of our planet. We are committed to doing our part to alleviate this impact by making the switch to solar simple for our customers.
NPC provides a process that is not only simple, but quick and easy. With our three innovative option choices including the System Purchase, The Financed System Purchase and the Simply Purchase Solar Power Plan, we make going solar simple and affordable.
We founded Neighborhood Power Corporation with the mission to help millions of energy users adopt solar power to protect themselves from rising electricity costs and to preserve the environment. We have assembled some of the most talented and experienced people and partners to be on our solar team.
At NPC we look forward to saving you money with solar made simple.
